AUTUMN INSPIRATION

A few days ago, I went down to my local lake to enjoy an afternoon stroll along the boardwalk. The pathway was crowded, full of people out to catch a breath of fresh autumn air. People were friendly on the path that day. No one walked with their head hung low or avoided eye contact with each other. Instead, they greeted one another with hellos and commented on the gorgeous October weather. This was a safe place for a community out to enjoy the same thing, a beautiful fall day.

As I stopped at the edge of the rocks for a moment to look out at the trees across the water, I was amazed at how a place so full of life could also feel so secluded. I had passed these trees many times before, but for some reason never paid them much attention. They now reminded me of the works that fill art galleries, and for the first time, I saw the colours that must have inspired those artists to paint. The surreal blend of yellow, red, and orange that sets the world on fire before everything turns grey.

I’m home now. The kettle’s boiling. The splendid weather from a few days ago has faded away, and I’m trying to cozy up a corner of the living room for myself. I’ve already laid out my pens, a notebook, and a rather disorganized pile of research papers. My computer is on, but today I’m only using it to play music. The kettle’s done, and I’ve poured myself a cup of cinnamon spice tea in an attempt to embrace the changing season.
